Cleaning up Dad's stuff .

Post by RBHarter »

My Dad was a curious guy . Not in a weird , peculiar way just different and that's probably why I'm quirky .

He always wanted to a 257 Roberts , for 40+ yr I remember him wanting one . I finally had a deal and got him one on a 95 Mauser built . Turns out it is a real tack driver . We never got to shoot it he and I he never loaded a round for it .

I guess he wanted one even before I was born . Today going through an ammo can of his I found 8 red Remington boxes of brand new unprimed 257 Roberts brass . All one lot boxed up 10/20/65 .

If that weren't enough also found in the box was a brand-new 12 ga shell holder for a Lachmiller press the one with the broken 12ga shell holder and the decap and sizer die in it .

The second can was just as exciting .
Powder .
2# of Du Pont 4350
2# of DuPont 4831
1# ea DuPont and H4895
1# of new Green Dot
1# of Hercules Herco
1# of Hercules Unique
1# 700x
4# of H4831 I hauled out here bought at the Reno Cabela's store .

The late stuff had tags of $28/lb .
I can't figure what he would have used Herco in , he was a solid Unique loader for shotguns . I don't remember much if any 9mm , 38/357 data for it . 45 ACP maybe ? The 700x is equally mysterious .

There are 2 more 20 mm cans of assorted bits and pieces and ammo to sort through for keepers and junk .

Yea buddy, very nice surprise I would guess.
Man, all that nice brass & several boxes of missiles,
If I didn't already have one, I would have to go buy
a .257 Bob!! It's just the principal of the thing.. :D
I also remember how tough it was for me, going
through my folks stuff when I finally worked up
the nerve to get the job done.
