I also am on the, "Get the correct tool" side. Much easier, &, It's another neat nifty tool.
Why would I think you'd laugh at me? Because I know you, and it was a dumb thing to do, and you should laugh at me....
I got the tool on E-bay, 8 bucks shipped. Took about 13 seconds to remove said offending piece of brass. Now I have to "fix" the buggered up plug screw I was trying to remove on the end of the barrel so I could reattach the front sight (that I removed in 1972). No..I have no idea why I wanted to reinstall that sight. The rifle has a perfectly good scope on it.
