Mainlanders or CFA's (come from away) say New "Found" land.Natives say New "Fund" land. With
the emphasis on land. Me depends on how much Screech I have had. I live in St. John's which is pronounced "Sin" John's by locals. Given its seaport history it is somewhat fitting.

Mainlanders = Haole in Hawaii. Nowadays Haole has sadly taken on a negative connotation. Actually haole originally meant any foreigner. I grew up being called "haole boy". When I'm back home I wear it as badge of honor when my old friends call me that and start with a pigeon english response when some young local punk is hassling. I learned every Hawaiian slang, body part, and cuss word as a kid. ( I believe that is mandatory for most kids no matter where you grow up.) I love the fact that this usually shuts them up and starts a new friendship.

My Mom's folks were , she and my aunt were born there .
Funny story . It cost my Mom more in both postage and the phone call to get her birth certificate than the certificate cost .
No snow here 90 miles north of Texarkana , foggy mornings , 40ish overnight .
