Prescribed Burn Manager Training

Post by Ranch Dog »

It has been slow so here is what I've been doing this week, I attended a class to receive my certification as the title of this topic indicates. As a landowner, I'm allowed to perform prescribed burns on my property, which I do, but I've always wanted formal training in this endeavor. The course is four days in length and cumulates with a burn after written testing, all which was done on the Welder Wildlife Refuge near Sinton, TX.

The next day, yesterday, and because of the training, I was invited to attend a large burn on the coastal plains of Texas. Pictures from the burn.

Here is a video of a fire whirl. Saw some big ones, but was too busy at my assigned tasks to record those.

Yep, from personal experience doing the "fireman thing" in another lifetime, I seem to remember that prescribed burns aren't a whole lot different than most any other rural fire situation .... protect exposures (contain the fire)

Tough work though, especially if it gets out of hand.
