I think maybe seating the bullet upside down in the case neck was to be able to mount the case in the drill press so that the chuck could be tightened without mis-aligning the case while drilling out the primer pocket, turning the diameter down and then cutting off the base of the case to use as a bullet seating plug.

so when chucking up the case you dont crumble it, and it will fall out of the chuck, the inverted bullet is there only for chucking the neck of the 223 brass for rigidity

I get it now ( but still feel stupid ) Michael, Dan & Gus, Don't y'all
say a word :D
Couple of questions for you Chet,
1-) Are any mods done to the OEM seater plug, length etc?
2-) How heavy of a spring? The one in your pic looks pretty stout?

The one in your pic looks pretty stout? thats a hard one, if i had to guess maybe a 5lb weight would about compress it. a test is when assembled and set to your over all length, if you push up on the seater with a allen wrench should be able to push by hand, you should feel tension on the snug side, if it's too light it won't serve it's purpose of eliminating shavings and concentricity.

This sounds interesting, and I get tilted bullets occasionally, that sometimes even destroy the case (folding a portion inwards).

But I'm sorry, English is not my native language, and I got a bit confused by this long sentence without visible structure.

Can someone please make a more clean looking writeup? I'm very interested in this mod, especially how it performs with pistol bullets, but I'm just not sure I understood it correctly.

That is my point too even though English is my language.

It seems to me that a spring stop vs. the current positive stop would induce COAL variations.

Maybe the spring causes the cartridge to make contact to align the bullet and then compresses into the adjustment plug against a stop and then continues to seat the bullet to a predetermined depth.

sir
if you do the mod you will see what happens, has nothing to do coal, nothing. if you look at the pic, when the bullet is seated the mod is totally compressed and up inside the seater top,
