Re: Lee now offering short, straight wall cartridge, Collet
I'm a big fan of the Lee FCDs. They work well for me, and I avoid using the crimp ring on the seater dies...

Would the new 45 Colt Collet Crimp Die work with longer 454 Casull cases?

They are very length specific. With a spacer on the shell holder face it probably would.

No. I did special order collet style FCDs for both the 454 Casull and 480 Ruger. I have both cartridges in the Rossi 92 rifles.buckeye43210 wrote:Would the new 45 Colt Collet Crimp Die work with longer 454 Casull cases?

I didn't think of it until now but I bet they would make a custom .38 special collet crimp die.

Re: Lee now offering short, straight wall cartridge, Collet
Like I noted above, the cartridge has reached a length that it is too short for the collet to work with the traditional, open top, collet die body. It has to be made with the Bottle Neck Pistol FCD. A collet is inside the die body and actuates against the inside top of the die rather than the shell holder.Maximumbob54 wrote:I didn't think of it until now but I bet they would make a custom .38 special collet crimp die.

Re: Lee now offering short, straight wall cartridge, Collet
Ah. I assumed they would just subtract the length from the collet itself or something to that effect. I stand corrected.
I'm still a little miffed Lee won't offer the carbide FCD without the carbide. I just ruined one trying to knock the carbide out from it. The other one I did popped right out and broke when it hit the floor. This one was like it was welded in place. I'm tempted to order a replacement and just cut the entire bottom section off the die body.
