Load Master press ball handle

Post by horseman »

Does anyone here have the roller handle on their LM press. The amount of ammunition I usually load at one time is not a large amount so not a problem, but when I was processing brass, both 9mm and 45acp, by the hundreds the ball on the handle got to be a bit uncomfortable. After a couple hundred going at a pretty good rate I placed a cotton glove over the ball for a little "slippage" and that cured the problem for me. I was thinking the roller handle might eliminate that. It (roller handle) just doesn't look to be all that "sturdy" like it may twist or come loose, so am looking for first hand experience. I don't particularly like the way it looks but if it works that's all that matters.

Well, no experience with the Loadmaster but, the ball on my Pro 1000 & RCBS Summit, & roller
on my turrett, I vote for the roller every time. Replacement pool ball size balls help a good bit
but, still no comparison with a roller. I drilled out an 8 ball & epoxyed it to a classic cast & a Breech Lock Challenger, much much nicer but again, no comparison. Don't believe me, ask my arthritic right hand & replacement right shoulder. Never had a problem with sturdiness.
Try one, you'll like it!!!

I have the roller horseman on both my turret, and BLP. They tend to take longer to get into that sweet spot ,but once you get there, they are the bomb. One has the foam grip, the other wood. I like the foam better. You don’t have to change grip pressure as much encountering a tough case. But everyone has a preference. I have not twisted one yet, and I sometimes use my classic turret to load 223.

Oh yea. When the shooting starts the old sarge wants to be surrounded! He knows it’s safe to shoot in all directions! Thought you would like that one.

You know me horseman, devil's advocate!

You can get a complete APP for $24 more than the Inline Fab Roller Handle ($4 more for the basic press).

Seriously, a couple of years ago, I stopped decapping on the Load-Masters and I think not having the debris drop down through the press has helped the shell plate from picking up material (in that it has lube on the bottom). Although without doubt, your press is cranking out the ammo. I've done the same with my Classic Turret, less cleaning required. I was down to my Challenger press doing the dirty work and dreamed of some type of cartridge brass prepping press.

Ranch Dog, you made me go take another look at the APP and from what I read if you buy the complete unit you can use the universal case feeder unit with it. The case feeder on the LM is one of the reasons I enjoy that press. So that would make the APP work for me for utility work for sure. Seeing it at first blush I thought it only had the single tube for feeding cases so wasn't really interested. I also like the idea of the crimp remover. That alone could save a guy a lot of time and effort it would appear. So, you have yours "on the bench" (saw the picture :) ) what have you done with it so far ?. Some others have received them also from what I've read here, so would like to hear what you guys opinions are as well.
