So how many in our ranks use a single stage? and Why?

Post by akuser47 »

I started with it and am still useing it. I guess the alum. o frame single stage. breech lock model. I would like to get the cast model someday and a 4 hole turret but my needs are meet by my single. I like the precision I can have with my setup. Even though not fast but very accurate. I have used the turrest and I like that they can be accurate and faster as well. I will first upgrade my powder handler to an auto rcbs chargemaster 1500 has been a dream i want to use and then a lee turret press to help in bulk loadings. I cannot ever see not useing a single stage. My current powder measering is done by my OHAUS 1010, or as most would only know it by because RCBS bought the design would be the RCBS 1010 they are green mine is the original grey. RCBS even helped my with parts for it because mine was needing some TLC to get back into working order. Love this scale but it lacks speed.

I have a single stage, I wish I could say I use it but after four years it is all still in the box. I have most of what I need to reload a few calibers but for some reason I never seem to go that final step and get started. I have a friend who does reload, and hope to have him mentor me some and I think that will help. Glad to be a part of this forum.

I have the Lee Classic Cast and Lee Classic Turret. I can't imagine needing more for my loading needs. I use the single stage for bullet sizing, brass sizing (New Quick Trim), bulge buster for 45 ACP, Lee Universal decapping die, and loading 12 ga brass shot shells using the RCBS Cowboy die.

When I started back reloading it was with a Lee C-press. I have no complaints with it and still use it for decapping, bullet sizing, etc.

I run the Classic Cast single stage. It was my first press. I figured I would be better off learning the slow way rather than dive into a turret or progressive. 6years later I still have not purchased a turret or progressive(been tempted a few times though).

Flat out, it just works!

All my bullet & case sizing is done on the Breech Lock Challenger press.

I use the single stage for all of my rifle cartridge work. It is simple and accurate. I just inherited my oldest brothers Lee gear after his passing, so now I have two single stage presses. I still need to find a piece of real estate on the reloading bench for it though...... Maybe the wife wont notice if I invade more of the basement.....

Anything that isn't bulk pllinking ammo like the cheapest .223 I can scrape together is all done on my single stage press. Slow and steady with rifle makes far better ammo that I can rush together.
