Lee Three Hole Turret

Post by reloader762 »

A couple of weeks ago, a good friend gave me this old press and he had acquired in a box of reloading stuff a guy he knew no longer wanted. All the exposed metal was covered in surface rust, and it looked like it hadn't been used in years. I took it home and gave it and the Lee Auto Disk a good going over, I was also able to get a couple new turrets and some new plastic Hex ratchets for it as well, so it should be good to go for a long time.

Howdy Reloader, nice gift & good looking job on the cleanup.
I used a 3 hole Pro 1000 for the longest time. Ran a 4 tube case feeder & A 4 tube bullet feeder on mine. Once properly set up,
ran like a charm. To the exclusion of all my other presses, it became my dedicated 9mm & 45acp producer. Before you start tweaking or modifying anything, set it up exactly according to Lee instructions, load with it see what's up first.

That is the first Lee press I ever bought. Around 1995-96. Loaded a lot of 45 Colt on that little press. Eventually "upgraded" to be a 4 holer when that became available and loaded a LOT more 45 Colt on it. If memory serves me correctly I gave it to a young fella (friend) in the very early 2000's when he told me he wanted to learn to reload, yep, you guessed it, 45 Colt. Taught him every thing I knew about it, took about 10 minutes.

I'm going to use it as is, I've set it up with a new set of Lee dies to load 38 Special on exclusively, so I can leave my Lyman dies set up for 357 Mag. on the 4 hole press. Since I don't own a dedicated 38 Special revolvers I'm going to put up some Skeeter loads using 38 Special cases, 2400 powder and my #358156 double crimp groove mold with the bullet crimped in the lower groove. Going to start out with 11.0 grs. of 2400 and see how that does.

Recovered this bullet that was shot in a 38 Special +P load. Bullet on the right was just tumble lubed in Alox/JPW lube with the gas check left off.

The old Lee powder measurer was leaking a little too much for my taste, so I broke out my Lyman Universal powder through expander die and install the 38 cal. Expander and attached my RCBS Little Dandy. I'm off every Friday, so I'll be loading up some test loads to shoot on Saturday if the weather permits.

'Lil Dandy is a nice compliment to any turret. I especially like for
batch loading. I did get a Bailey Boat adjustable rotor for mine
& haven't looked at my rotor stash in years..
