Return of The Micro Disk?

Post by buckeye43210 »

The Micro Disk is currently unavailable because the injection mold broke. Making a new mold is expensive using traditional methods. So, how about using a hybrid 3d printing/injection mold process?

A company called custom cast already makes a "mini disk", which is a cold mold resin replica of the micro disk, but improved on some places. Actually I got the original and the replica, and from direct comparison I would guess the replica to perform better. But on the other hand I don't actually need it, my loads are larger.

Interesting. Looks like there is a market here that Lee is missing out on.

Titan's description makes me think they may be using the hybrid process I described in my original post.

Edited to add: Upon closer inspection of the pictures and after reading some other posts, I've determined the Titan Reloading micro disks are 3d printed and not injection molded. However, a hybrid process could allow them to speed up production and lower cost.

Well, I'm glad other's are filling the need...

Yep, that's the company Fyodor mentioned in a previous post.

Titan uses 3d printing, while custom cast uses a cold mold casting process. The casting would result in smoother surfaces, with less powder sticking to the walls of untreated printed parts. What I can't see in the picture is, if titan reams the holes after printing.

Metal sleeve inserts would help cut down on static cling.
