Ordered one of these last night and a scope base from Henry. I want to try it on my Henry 45 Colt. Seems like me and the regular open sights I love to use aren't getting along as well as we used to. Must be the fault of either the sights or the target, couldn't be my older eyes.

This is the “See All Open Sight” mounted on my Henry 45 Colt. I first mounted it to the rear of the scope base that I ordered from Henry, but it didn’t seem to come up on the proper level to get a good sight picture. (Hope that makes sense).

I tried moving it as far from my eye as the base would allow. Now when I shoulder the rifle the sight seems to be in the correct position so target and sight line up for me. The farther from your eye the better it would be. I would say mounted something like I see scopes mounted on scout rifles would be about perfect. (Haven't tried it farther than shown yet.)

We had target stands at 35 yards so I zeroed there on 1 inch black dots with Magtech cowboy action ammunition. The dots were in focus and so was the sight. Seemed strange but it really worked.

Next came the 8 inch steel plate at 100 yards with my loads, 240 grain Hornady JHP at 1260 fps.
I will try to describe what the sight picture looked like for consistent hits: What I saw when shooting is the peek of the triangle at the 12 o’clock position of the steel plate. Hits were in the bottom half of the plate. This sight picture was easier for me to get than it is with the conventional open sights, but I wouldn’t want to try much farther. Doesn’t matter because I consider the 100 yard mark about it for the 45 Colt. At this distance the sight picture was not as good as the 35 yard target. EDIT: By that I mean with my eyes the gray steel plate didn't show up as well. It is also a lot faster to aim.

I would recommend this sight to my own Mother. It seems like something that really works.

Shot over an additional hundred rounds since I posted last. Getting more used to this different way of aiming. I think the sight and me will be friends for a long time.

What the manufacture says about the sight is true. And I think for ranges of 100 yards or less it will be just fine. I am mostly using the Henry this sight is on for close range plinking (20 to 80 yards) so the sight is perfect for the 45 colt cartridge and what I am using it for.

For larger game like deer where you might shoot at ranges a little over 100 yards I think it would be good on a flatter shooting rifle like a 30-06. (I would try a shot on a deer with the 30-06 and this sight at 200 yards)

Thank you for that good report. This is something I will need to look into. As my eyes get to the well over 60 age I find even receiver sites are sometimes not what they used to be for me. I think by 70 I may need some alternative.
