Unfortunately it's been at least 2 years since last shooting prarie dogs in SD. I was using 2 rifles and a couple times had to take a break because both 223 rifles were too hot to continue shooting. So I have been thinking about it since then. Now I have a good idea. I will be doing it soon and I will post what I come up with.

I would prefer putting the fan at the breech, not the muzzle. That way you can't accidently shoot it off.

Just a quick idea, haven't tried it yet (but that gives me an idea of a new product):

Take a powder funnel, and drill out the thin section so the wall thinkness is uniform and low. Put a short piece of silicone hose over the "nipple", that also fits your chamber. Bolt a small fan on the funnel, as are used in PCs to cool processors, that should fit the funnel diameter (2" maybe). These usually run on 5 Volts, so if you use a 3 AA battery pack you'll be fine.

I would shy away from the canned air . Its compressed to liquid CO2 if you get it upside down and get liquid out of it ,it will be sub zero F (below-10C) in a 100F+ bbl.
