What rifle powders work best in the Auto Drum

Post by 5akman »

Getting ready to start reloading 25-06. I loaded for this gun 35 yrs ago using dippers but now want to use my LM with Auto Drum, Since I have not purchased any rifle powder yet, I'd like to start off my ladders using powders that work best in the Auto Drum. 4831, RL-22, 4350, 4166 are all options depending on what weight bullet I'm using.

The only rifle powders that I have used with the auto drum are IMR 4895 and Varget. The Varget was in 223 and had a + - 0.2 grains with a few as much as .3 . But because Varget fills the case into the neck, you can see a .3 difference. The IMR 4895 was in full load 308's and was dropped short and trickled to the exact weight The stick powders will vary more than the flake or ball.

I posted some tests batches with 5 different powders, ball, flake and extruded/stick powders awhile back. Here's the link:

I hope that helps.
