Turret Press for Rifle Cartridges

Post by Skinnedknuckles »

I was viewing the post singing the praises of the Lee Turret Press (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=94#p232) and would have commented there but it is locked due to age.

I am also a great fan of the Lee Turret Presses (I have both the Classic and Deluxe versions) but have only used them for pistol cartridges. Watching the videos in the referenced post, I see him using a die like the Powder Thru Expander Die in the handgun die sets, but I can't find such a die for rifle cartridges on the Lee website. I hope to get a 30-30 levergun in the near future and will want to load for it, and I'd like to be able to load it like the poster is loading .223. Any idea where I can get the proper dies?

I use the Lee Pacesetter set for 223. There is no need for an expander, but Lee does make a Rifle Charging Die

Just screw the ProAutoDisk powder dispenser onto it.
My setup uses 3 turret heads, Case prep with a universal decapping die,and both of my sizing dies, 9mm and 223. My 9mm turret has powder through expander in 1, bullet feed in 2,

For long cases above 3" you have to remove the auto index. Apart from that you can reload rifle ammo on it.

For straight wall cases, including straight walled taper case (30-30 Win), the Pacesetter dies come with a Powder Through Expander die. No need to get the Rifle Charging Die for the 30-30 Win.

It doesn't do a powder through expander as reloading jacketed bullets in a rifle doesn't need an expander. I had an empty hole still that could have used the Lee universal case mouth expander or a Lyman M-die for the right caliber. It was really a pretty easy setup. And Win 748 flows well enough anyways but with the rotation of the turret stirring it along it flowed even better and super uniform drops. I just had to keep it topped off.
